Comment Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

1. What you share when commenting

When you leave a comment, you choose to share your first name (publicly displayed), the comment text itself, and an optional language tag. We do not ask for your full name, address, or any other identity document.

2. First name and public visibility

Only the first name you type is shown next to your comment. We recommend using a first name or nickname you are comfortable sharing publicly. This name appears to all visitors once the comment is approved by moderation.

3. Email and phone (optional)

Email and phone are optional. If provided, they are stored privately and never displayed on the site. They are used only to contact you directly if needed, and are never sold or shared with third parties for marketing.

4. Moderation before publication

Every comment and reply enters a moderation queue before going live. A moderator reviews it to prevent spam, abuse, or off-topic content. Approved comments are visible to everyone; rejected or pending comments remain private.

5. Replies and threading

You may reply to an approved comment. Replies are also moderated and, once approved, appear under the original comment. Replies show the same first-name and comment text as any other comment.

6. Anti-spam and abuse protection

We use a hidden honeypot field, a minimum submission time, and rate limits per IP address to block automated spam. These measures are privacy-respecting: we only store a short hash of the IP for abuse prevention.

7. Retention and deletion

Comments are kept as long as the post is published. You may request deletion of your own comment and associated contact details at any time by writing to hello@motheroffthemap.com with the comment text and approximate date.

8. Your rights and contact

You can ask for access, correction, or deletion of any personal data tied to your comments. We will respond in a reasonable timeframe. Contact: hello@motheroffthemap.com.
